The Solar System in 3D

The Sun, the planets, the deep-space probes and even Starman's Tesla, at their true positions. Drag to rotate, zoom, and target a probe to follow it to the edge of the Solar System.

By default, distances are compressed (logarithmic scale): without it, the inner planets would be invisible next to Voyager 1, more than 170 times the Earth-Sun distance away. The "Real proportions" toggle applies the true ratios to both distances AND the sizes of the bodies: the Sun becomes 10 times wider than Jupiter, and Earth a tiny dot; directions are real in both cases. Planet positions are computed from ephemerides (JPL method), probe positions are taken from JPL Horizons and extrapolated between updates; the probes are shown as stylized 3D models. Also shown are the main moons, Saturn's rings, the asteroid belt and the Kuiper belt. In the compact view, sizes are deliberately exaggerated to stay visible (in reality, Jupiter is 29 times wider than Mercury). Enable "Proxima Centauri" to grasp the sheer scale: the nearest star is about 1,600 times farther than Voyager 1.
